Every organisation has a duty of care responsibility to provide a safe and healthy workplace for its employees. This includes taking every possible step to minimise employees’ exposure to violence, aggression or verbal abuse in connection with their work. Any form of violence against staff is unacceptable.
Workplace violence might come from your customers, clients or members of the public, but it can also happen between workers, supervisors and managers. It may also happen away from your usual workplace but where you are still carrying out work, such as at your own home or a client’s home.
If you are not protecting and supporting your staff from workplace violence, you are failing in your duty of care. More and more ECINS has been supporting frontline workers in difficult fields such as domestic and family violence who are regularly at risk of experiencing workplace violence.
We help by making sure when they are out in the field they are always in touch with their home teams using secure channels. We help by making it easier for workers to report incidents and for managers to gain oversight about patterns related to places, premises and people.
